How do the Good Food Awards work?

The Awards are a program designed to promote food businesses that operate with high standards of service and food quality. Run on an annual schedule of the financial year (i.e. July to June) with an awards ceremony each July for presentation of awards and networking of food related entities.

In addition to Business awards, we also offer a Customer Service Award for an Individual. This award is decided by highest customer vote and open to food business staff on the Fraser Coast. Nominations open 1st July 2009.

Eligibility:

Open to all Food Licensed businesses within the geographic local government area of Fraser Coast Regional Council. Check your Food Licence, if it's issued by Fraser Coast Regional Council you are eligible to enter.

Voting:

Customers search for businesses and vote either positive (thumbs up) or negative (thumbs down). These votes are tallied for an average positive vote - positive/total votes = average positive vote.
For instance if Lilly's Pizzas received 250 positive votes and 100 negative votes, Then the positive votes are divided by the total votes of 350, which gives an average vote of .7143 or 71% average positive vote.

This is the fairest voting system as it compares high traffic with low traffic venues on an even field. It also takes notice of the people who didn't like the experience of visiting the business.

The recently released award category of 'Service Excellence' is an exception to the above voting system in that it is judged by industry experts and mystery shoppers on a points basis. This category is free with automatic entry for all GFA registered businesses.
We will be announcing the judging criteria for this award in september.

Voting Avenues:

  1. Online
  2. Instore Voting Forms
  3. News Paper Voting Forms
  4. Annual Magazine Voting Forms

Winners:

Individual awards are presented to each category winner plus one overall winner. (Click here for list of categories)

Awards consist of a plaque/trophy for display in their business place, promotion as an award winner, editorial in yearly magazine and use of bragging rights in their own marketing. Some categories are sponsored by food service suppliers and other businesses that also provide prizes with an award.

Events:

The award's season climax is an annual Presentation Ceremony Dinner, held in July each year at one of the best function venues on the Fraser Coast with our regions best caterers providing an exquisite menu to compliment an entertaining and fun evening.

Our Annual Magazine Launch is in August with detailed articles on winning establishments and rankings of all businesses. This is the best guide to dining in the Fraser Coast as winners are chosen by customers recommending their favourite places to eat.
